Food to Avoid

The following is not an exhaustive list and I have no expertise in this area other than my own experience and what I have researched.  There is a longer list at the Coeliac Help website. There are however a few entries on that list which conflict with other information I have seen.  It is mostly the sugars ie fructose, dextrose, sucrose, glucose & glucose syrup etc…)

These basic ingredients should always be avoided

Wheat
Barley
Rye
Malt
Rusk
Malt Vinegar
Soy sauce
Couscous
Semolina
Marmite

These products usually contain some of the above…

as well as some of the later stuff

Bread products, inc. obviously breadcrumbs!
Pastry products
Cakes
Biscuits
Pasta
Lager
Beer
Pre-cut processed chips
Processed potato products
Processed sauces / dips / condiments
Crisps
Gravy, Gravy Powder
Stock, Stock cubes
Processed soups

These ingredients and products containing them should be avoided unless…

it specifically states they are derived from something other than wheat, barley, rye or malt.

Glucose, Glucose syrup
Dextrose
Fructose
Sucrose
Dextrin
Maltodextrin
Starch
Flour
Vinegar

These products usually contain some of the above

Bacon
Ham and many other cold / cured meats
Sausages including, Chorizo, Salami, Pepperoni etc…
Crisps
Sweets
Yoghurt
Cold drinks (Fizzy and Cordials)
Processed sauces / dips / condiments
Processed foods in general.
